Common Water Heater Problems

Common Water Heater Problems

We rely on our water heater for everything from washing dishes to taking baths, and when it fails, it can cause a lot of issues in our daily activities. It’s best to tackle the repair before it becomes a major problem. Here are some signs your water heater needs a professional look.

Sediment Buildup

Water contains minerals, and while many of these minerals are good for you, they can also build up inside your water heater. The more sediment your heater is filled with, the worse the heater will run. It may give you rusty or off-colored water, become unable to heat properly or even stop giving you water altogether.

Temperature Problems

If your water heater won’t produce enough hot water, or if the water coming out of it is dangerously hot and above the temperature, you set it for, then you have some problems. It might be getting old, in which case, the heating units are no longer working properly. Alternatively, your sensor might be a malfunction, which can make the water much hotter or colder than you actually want it to be.

Leaks

Water heaters can leak if any part of it is damaged or exposed. The entire tank can leak, in which case you might need to get it replaced outright. It could also be as minor as a single valve coming loose. Either way, if your heater leaks, you’ll be losing a lot of water but seeing an increase in your bills.
